The DVD is an informative tool for GPs and paediatricians as well as providing an easily understood explanation of coeliac disease for family, classmates and friends.

Thank you to those who made the developent of the CD possible, the Zig Inge Foundation, Nexpep, Associate Professor Don Cameron, Avril Brereton and Graham Cumming Multi Media.

We extend our gratitude to the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust for their support of our planned Educational Outreach Programs in collaboration with The Coeliac Society Victoria.

Recognising the need to develop a high calibre educational outreach program to disseminate key, up-to-date messages about coeliac disease, the CRF and CSVic have combined to ensure delivery of four educational programs each comprising a general public session and one designed for GPs and allied health professionals. Programs will be delivered in the western suburbs, eastern suburbs, Bairnsdale and Warnambool and will form the basis of an educational model which can be delivered interstate.

Now that funding has generously been agreed by the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust, we can begin planning in earnest for this exciting new project - watch this space for upcoming dates and venues.

More than two decades ago, he joined the Finnish Coeliac Society and his research has been inspired by the needs of the coeliac sufferers. The outcome of his group research is the understanding of the broad clinical spectrum of gluten-induced disease entities, the correct use of serologic biomarker tests and a rapid point of care test in the primary health care, leading to a 20-fold increase of diagnosed coeliac disease in adults in Finland. His academic group is collaborating in addition to the patient organisations also with the authorities and industry. He was elected as the President of the nationwide Finnish Coeliac Society, and he is still today the Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board.

Nexpep is an early stage biotechnology company focused on developing a treatment for coeliac disease and a set of diagnostic and monitoring tools to manage patient health. Nexpep’s treatment is a desensitisation therapy using a series of peptides which target the different genetic forms of coeliac disease. This peptide based immunotherapy is designed to desensitise the patient’s immune system to gluten toxic peptides.

This treatment approach to an immune disease is not unique, and there is sufficient evidence of desensitisation in other disorders. This approach may lead Nexpep to expand it’s development into therapies for other autoimmune disorders in the future. Nexpep is in a unique position, holding the relevant patents to diagnostics and treatments utilising the gluten peptides recognised by T cells in coeliac disease. No other group or company is pursuing peptide immunotherapy for coeliac disease.

Nexpep’s main product, Nexvax2, is a unique immune-focussed therapy for coeliac disease. The aim of Nexvax2 is to desensitise a coeliac disease patient’s immune system to gluten so that a state of “gluten tolerance” is achieved - analagous to traditional desensitisation regimens for several allergic diseases. Nexvax2 is comprised of select gluten fragments called peptides, and it is envisaged that Nexvax2 would be administered as a series of injections. A study to test the safety of Nexvax2 (phase 1 trial) is well underway (see: http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00879749), with results expected in the middle of 2010. The main aim of this early trial is to determine the safety of Nexvax2 in people with coeliac disease. Additional studies will be performed on Nexvax2 to establish the optimal dose and how effective it is.

As more information becomes available it will be posted on our website. If you would like more information about Nexpep Pty Ltd please contact Nexpep CEO Dr Bob Anderson. Visit our website http://www.nexpep.com

Nexpep’s research and development program was performed at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (WEHI) in Melbourne, Australia, under a collaborative research agreement between Nexpep, WEHI and the Royal Melbourne Hospital / Melbourne Health.

Inova is one of the world leaders in autoimmune disease diagnostics

INOVA is dedicated exclusively to autoimmune diagnostics. They offer quality on a comprehensive range of autoimmune testing reagents and provide technical proficiency, product support and service to their customers.

A History of innovation

INOVA Diagnostics, Inc. was formed in 1987 by a group of scientists who were directly involved in the early development of autoimmune disease serology as well as the people responsible for the first commercially available autoantibody test kits. INOVA Diagnostics has a rich history of innovative and first FDA-cleared products focused on the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases such as coeliac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic lupus erythematosus among others.

In July 2009, Werfen Group successfully completed the acquisition of the autoimmune disease diagnostics business of The Binding Site Group Ltd. The Binding Site autoimmune disease test portfolio complements the INOVA Diagnostics’ family of products and nearly doubles the total portfolio to over 400 products and systems.

Today, INOVA is recognized worldwide as a leader in autoimmune disease diagnostics. The majority of their products are produced in their Scripps Ranch facility located in the heart of Southern California’s Biotechnology community. They combine administration, R&D and manufacturing under one roof, which provides reliable and economical solutions for all of their autoimmune disease testing needs.
